| RLT Lookup Customer By Whole Phone Number |
Quick! The customer is on the phone. He wants to know his balance, and has his checkbook in his hand. Now, what is that Customer ID code? Can't remember? Then get his telephone number and you can quickly and easily look him up using RLT - Lookup Customer By Whole Phone Number. Plus, this enhancement works in the A/R and Sales Invoicing/Order Entry modules to let you lookup a customer by their entire telephone number!
Before the new enhanced lookup will display, a new option, Rebuild Keys, must be run. This process creates special auxiliary files that contain record pointers to your customer telephone number in Accounts Receivable. Rebuild Keys will sort the record pointers by Telephone Numbers, so that when the enhanced lookup is used, Customer Telephone Numbers starting with the same characters will be grouped together, regardless of the Customer ID.
To run Rebuild Keys, select Set Module Options from the Maintenance programs for Accounts Receivable, then select Set Lookup Options:

After selecting Set Lookup Options, the following screen will display:

Rebuild Keys will normally only be run when first installing the enhancement. The amount of time required for this process varies depending on the size of your customer files and your hardware/software configuration. After creating special auxiliary files with Rebuild Keys, Lookup Customer By Whole Phone Number will be available whenever F2 Lookup is used at a Customer Id field. When F2-Lookup is pressed, the following menu will appear:

If you have other Lookup Enhancements, they will also be shown on the above menu. If Telephone Lookup is selected, you will be prompted for the Starting Key, which is long enough to enter the entire phone number, as shown below:

The Telephone Lookup will display all items sorted by Telephone Number starting with the entry you have made, or at the beginning of the file if the starting key is left blank.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the desired customer and push Enter to select it. Push Escape to exit without choosing a customer. Push PageUp to see customers that come before those displayed in the box and push PageDown to see customers that come after.
Please note that an upper case letter is different than a lower case letter. When telephone numbers are sorted, all upper case letters come first and then come lower case letters. The sorting sequence for letters and numbers is as follows:

If you are trying to look up a telephone number, you should enter the letters in the same case as you originally entered the telephone number.
