Do you have trouble remembering the department or have the same item number in different departments? With ILI - Lookup Inventory By Vendor Item Number, just enter the primary Vendor Item Number and F2 automatically finds and displays the item in all departments. In addition to sorting by Vendor Item Number, this useful tool also displays Description in all Inventory Lookups in Sales Invoicing, Purchase Order and Inventory! This enhancement searches only the Vendor Item Number that is displayed on screen in Maintain Inventory Items, it does not search the Alternate Vendor Item Numbers.

Before the new enhanced lookup will display, a new option, Rebuild Keys, must be run. This process creates special auxiliary files that contain record pointers to your Vendor Item Number in Inventory. Rebuild Keys will sort the record pointers by Vendor Item Number, so that when the enhanced lookup is used, vendor item numbers starting with the same characters will be grouped together, regardless of Department and Inventory Item Number.

To run Rebuild Keys, select Maintain Inventory Options from the Maintenance programs for Inventory, then select Set Lookup Options:

Rebuild Keys will normally only be run when first installing the enhancement. The amount of time required for this process varies depending on the size of your inventory files and your hardware/software configuration. After creating special auxiliary files with Rebuild Keys, Lookup By Vendor Item Number will be available whenever F2 Lookup is used for an Inventory Item.

When F2 Lookup is pressed Department or Dept/Item Number field, the following menu will appear:

The Lookup By Vendor Item# box will display all items sorted by Vendor Item Number, starting with the entry you have made, or at the beginning of the file if the starting key is left blank.
